Wordle began as one man’s project to make his wife smile and soon became 2021’s favourite word game. People all over the world began to play, sharing their score on social media, and hoping to beat their friends in who guesses the word quickest. Limited guesses, and only having one-game-per-24hrs being the main features drawing people to the competitive game. As the game increased in popularity and was taken over by the New York Times, it spawned many different variations using the same features that drew players to it. Check out ten of the best games inspired by Wordle.
10 Games to Play if You Love Wordle
Daily Dordle
Just like Wordle, this game asks you to guess the 5-letter word of the day, but this time there are TWO to figure out. Your guess must be a real 5-letter word, so you cannot guess nonsense or random letters. Each guess is used for both words so there is a bit more brainpower to use with this game! Dordle also gives players the option to just play about with its Free Dordle game where you can guess as many times as you want and each word is randomly generated. Play Dordle here!
Quordle
If you liked Dordle, you are going to love Quordle. Like the double-word Wordle-type game, Quordle wants you to guess multiple words at a time- this time there are FOUR! Four words with only one guess at a time, but this time you have 9 attempts to get them all right. Play Quordle here!
Worldle
One for the geography buffs! Worldle is a daily guessing game where you have 6 attempts at guessing the country. This time, however, there are no letter clues. Instead you are provided with the outline of the country as you would see it on a map, and after each guess you are told the distance and direction of the target country to your guess. You are also given the percentage of the proximity of your guess (the lower the percentage, the further away the target country is). Play Worldle here!
Nerdle
Nerdle is for the math-heads among us. You are given 6 tries to guess the math calculation using numbers 0 – 10 and the symbols + – = * and /. Just like with Wordle you will be told where you have given the correct number or symbol, and if it is in the right place or not. This is a good alternative to guessing words every day. Play Nerdle here!
Dungleon
For those of us who prefer pictures to words, there is Dungleon. You must guess what is in the dungeon within 6 guesses. The rules state that each dungeon contains at least 1 hero and 1 monster in its grid, some pieces only appear along with other pieces, and some pieces only ever appear in the same place. There are also other secret rules to figure out as you play which makes this game extra exciting! Play Dungleon here!
Squirdle
Here is a guessing game for the Pokemon fans! You are given 8 guesses to figure out who the Pokemon is that the game is ‘thinking’ of. Each time you guess you are given clues as to how close your guess is. This is a daily game like Wordle, or there is a freeplay option where you can set your own parameters on which generation of Pokemon you will guess. Squirdle is a lot of fun and tests your Pokemon knowledge. Play Squirdle here!
Squareword
This is a daily word game in 2 dimensions. Guess five-letter words, with 15 guesses to reveal 10 words in the square. It is a real head-scratcher! Each time you guess you will be given a clue in the right column as to which letters you guessed that are correct but in the wrong spot. Letters are greyed out if they don’t exist in the word, yellow if in the wrong place, or green if placed correctly. Play Squareword here!
Squabble
Do you want to play Wordle but competitively against your friends? Then this is the game for you! Squabble has unlimited play, and allows you to invite up to 98 friends in Royale mode! It also have Blitz mode for 2-5 players. Guess incorrectly and your health decreases, guess correctly and you are healed! This fast-paced word-guessing game is addictive and exciting. Play Squabble here!
Eldrow
Eldrow- it’s Wordle backwards! Turn the tables on the AI and get them to guess YOUR word instead! See if the computer can guess which 5-letter word you are thinking of by assigning each correct, incorrect, and misplaced letter a colour. Let us know in the comments below if you have managed to beat the AI. Play Eldrow here!
Lordle of The Rings
Honestly this one gets to appear in our list just for the name. It is probably one of the hardest word games as you have to guess any five-letter word, including names, that appears in the classic high fantasy novel. It is a daily game just like Wordle, but with a Tokien-twist. Play Lordle of the Rings here!
If none of those interest you, try Lewdle, Crosswordle, Absurdle, or Primel instead!
