What is Candy XL in Pokémon Go?

Being one of the most wanted resources in Pokémon Go, the Candy XL allows players to level up their Pokémon past how it were in the game.

The Candy XL was first introduced with the level cap increase alongside the Season of Celebration and the Go Beyond update and lets players increase the overall CP if a Pokémon past the actual or original cap which is level 40, but with the Candy XL, you can increase up to level 50.

When sourcing for Candy XL, it is similar to a regular Candy but with several minor differences such as the ability to convert a regular Candy into a Candy XL.

How does XL Candy work?

Just like the level 1 to 40, this new CP level scales very well with the new Trainer level cap increase which goes as high as level 50. So that’s Candy XL, with it you can increase the level of your Pokémon from the max level of 40 to 50.

As with Mega Energy and Candy, every Candy XL is linked to the evolution chain of Pokémon. So if you’re looking to level up say a Charizard past its level cap of 40, then you’ll need to find a Charmander Candy XL.

Since it is an in-game resources, and allows you make Pokémons more powerful after they’ve past their level cap, it can be quite difficult to find an existing Candy. Below are some of the ways you can get a Candy XL.

How to get Candy XL

There are a couple of ways to get a Candy XL in Pokémon Go such as:

Catching unevolved Pokémon – This gives you a chance of receiving between one and three XL Candy.

Catching evolved, Legendary or Mythical Pokémon – This gives you guaranteed XL Candy for that Pokémon.

Trading – By trading, you get a chance of either player receiving XL Candy, with chances increasing with an increased catch distance.

Hatching Eggs – This is also an opportunity gives of getting Candy XL.

Walking with a Buddy Pokémon – This is an easy task that also gives you a chance of receiving Candy XL.

And lastly, converting a regular Candy to XL Candy at a rate of 100 Candy per XL Candy.
