If you’ve seen or heard of the mysterious Shadow Giratina in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you’re probably wondering what that thing even is.
You know of The Ghost/Dragon type Giratina’s Base Form and its Origin Forme, so what in the world is this shadowy looking Giratina? Read on to find out!
Is Shadow Giratina Available to Catch in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?
The simple answer would be: no. You cannot catch this shadowy Giratina found in Ramanas Park; it’s a little bit more complicated than that. This version of Giratina is simply meant to be defeated for you to be able to unlock Giratina’s Origin Forme. We’ll explain how.
First, you need to catch Giratina in its Base Form. For this, you need to have completed the main story and gotten the National Dex. This lets you access Sendoff Spring, where you can encounter and catch Giratina.
After you have Giratina in its Base Form, you need to catch the Regi Trio in Ramanas Park. This lets you unlock the Distortion Plate, which you can buy through the shop in Ramanas Park by exchanging either 1 Big Mysterious Shard or 3 Small Mysterious Shards.

Once you have the Distortion Plate, you enter the cave housing Shadow Giratina and place the Distortion Plate in the room to fight it. As said earlier, all you can do to this form of Giratina is to beat it, as you cannot capture Shadow Giratina.
Beating Shadow Giratina will reward you with the Griseous Orb. This is the only purpose of Shadow Giratina, as you can now equip the Griseous Orb to the Giratina Base Form that you’ve caught which will the turn it into its Origin Forme!
