Monster Rancher 2 DX, in particular, features quite a few monster breeds that are not available from the start of the game, and need players to complete certain tasks to unlock.

Here’s how to unlock two of these additional breeds, Backu and Golem.

How to Unlock Backu and Golem in Monster Rancher 2 DX

To unlock the Baku and Golem breeds in Monster Rancher 2 DX, you will need to make some progress in the game first, as you will need to reach Breeder Rank 4 first. Breeder Rank indicates your progress, and the only way to increase it is by winning tournaments. You will also need to purchase your first house upgrade, which is unlocked at Breeder Rank 3.

Once Breeder Rank 4 has been reached, and the first house upgrade has been purchased, you will have to wait until May 4. If you have 17,000 G in your possession, you will be asked if you want to upgrade your stable so that it can house bigger monsters. If you accept, not only the stable will be upgraded, but the Baku and Golem breeds will also be unlocked, giving you additional options that will be quite helpful as you attempt to complete more tournaments, and become an even better Monster Breeder!
