Introduced in Generation I, Onix did not receive an evolution until the next Generation of Pokemon games, Pokemon Gold and Silver. As Steelix, it gains the new Steel / Ground typing and greatly buffed stats.
If you want to know how to evolve your Onix into a Steelix in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, then this guide is for you!
What is the Method to Evolve Onix into Steelix in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?
Evolving Onix into Steelix in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is, thankfully, a much more independent process than it was in previous games. There is no need for an internet connection, since there is no trading involved.
The first thing you would need is an Onix, who can be found in the Crimson Mirelands near the Diamond Settlement. Once you have the Pokemon required, you now need a Metal Coat to give your giant rock snake.
The most efficient way to have a Metal Coat in your possession is through buying it at the Trade Post in Jubilife Village for 1,000 Merit Points. The other method would be heading into multiple space-time distortions in hopes for a random Metal Coat to drop. But the chances for this happening are pretty low.
So you have your Onix, and you have your Metal Coat, which you should be giving to your Onix. At this point, you would usually need to trade your Onix away while it held the Metal Coat for it to evolve, and then have your newly-evolved Steelix traded back to you.
But in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, all you need to do is use the Metal Coat on your Onix and you will be prompted to evolve it. As simple as that! Say hello to your newly evolved iron-clad snake monster for us!
