Trade evolutions have long been a controversial topic in Pokemon games. Some feel that they encourage a sense of community, while others just feel they are nothing more than a hassle. Fortunately for players who aren’t fans of trade evolutions, the Linking Cord item introduced in Pokemon Legends: Arceus makes it much easier to evolve Pokemon that typically need to be traded to reach their strongest forms!
What Does the Linking Cord Do?
The Linking Cord is a brand new item that functions like an evolution stone for Pokemon that would normally only evolve when traded like Kadabra or Haunter. Simply select the item and use it on an eligible Pokemon and it will instantly evolve as though you have traded it with a friend.
This can be very useful if none of your friends are playing Pokemon Legends: Arceus and you don’t trust strangers on the internet with your Pokemon. It’s also simply an efficient way to access trade evolutions; unless you’re legitimately playing the game in the same room, scheduling a time to trade with a friend can take days.
Where Can You Get a Linking Cord?
Linking Cords can be purchased from a vendor in Jubilife Village who sells items in exchange for Merit Points, the currency gained from finding other players’ lost satchels. Specifically, you will need 1,000 merit points to obtain one Linking Cord.
Alternatively, a potentially quicker but less reliable method of getting a Linking Cord is to find one from a Spacetime Distortion. Spacetime Distortions spawn a large variety of items on the ground and evolution items are among the most common of these, with Linking Cords included.
So How Are Linking Cords Used?
To reiterate, Linking Cords are a new item used to evolve Pokemon that would normally only evolve when traded. They’re used by selecting the item in your bag and then choosing an eligible Pokemon to use it on. You can get them from a vendor in Jubilife City or as a random item spawned by Spacetime Distortions. That’s all there is to know about Linking Cords in Pokemon Legends: Arceus!
