Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released last month after much fanfare and hype. It is the latest installment in the Pokémon series and takes a much different turn than its predecessors do in terms of storytelling and game mechanics.
The game takes place in the ancient Hisui region, which would become modern-day Sinnoh. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is drastically different with battles taking place on the overworld instead of turn-based instance battles, as was the staple of the series thus far.
Shiny Pokémon were also a staple of the Pokémon series since Generation 2, and they make their return in Pokémon Legends: Arceus!
Shiny Pokémon
Shiny Pokémon were first introduced in Generation 2’s games of Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. They are re-colored variations of their normal counterparts, without having any changes in base stats or stat growth.
Shiny Pokémon are extremely rare in the Pokémon world, with a base encounter rate of 1/4096! Due to such abysmal odds of encountering one, they are highly coveted by trainers and collectors alike!
With Shiny Pokémon appearing everywhere on the overworld including land, sea, and air, there are audio indicators that trigger a Shiny encounter.
Shiny Pokémon Sound Effects
A returning feature from older games is the Shiny sound indicator that displays when a Shiny encounter is triggered. This very apparent sound and sparkler visual effect is very reminiscent of the intro from older Pokémon games.
Due to all of the various sounds in the game, including musical themes, Pokémon cries, and environmental effects, it is very easy for players to sometimes miss the Shiny sound effect while traversing the overworld.
To alleviate this problem, there is an option in the sound settings of Pokémon Legends: Arceus that lets the player adjust the sound levels of sound effects to their desired level. We recommend turning down the Pokémon cries and turning up the sound effects for best results. Never miss a Shiny Pokémon encounter again!
