As is with every Pokémon game, players are tasked with searching for Pokémon to capture and collect, using them to battle other Pokémon, be it against the AI or against other players. The difference with Pokémon GO is that it utilizes the player’s phone GPS to find and capture Pokémon!

The game has been expanding its roster since its humble release with the original 151 Pokémon all the way to modern times. Pokémon got so popular that the original roster kept expanding till we got to eight whole generations of Pokémon!

Today we will be talking about one of the Hoenn releases, Swampert, and how best to play it.

Swampert

Swampert is a Water/Ground-type Pokémon introduced in the Gen-3 games of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. It is one of the three starter Pokémon of the third generation and a strong choice for players in Pokémon GO as well.

It evolves from Marshtomp with 100 candies, which evolves from Mudkip with 25 candies. Being a Water/Ground-type Pokémon, Swampert is immune to Electric-type moves but in turn, takes 4x damage from Grass-type moves.

To counter this, players will need a moveset that will utilize Swampert’s strengths while covering its weaknesses as well.

Best Swampert Moveset

The best moveset for Swampert would be any combination of the following:

  • Earthquake > Damage: 140 > DPS: 46.7
  • Sludge Wave > Damage: 110 > DPS: 34.4
  • Surf > Damage: 65 > DPS: 45.9
  • Muddy Water > Damage: 50 > DPS: 27.3
  • Hydro Cannon > Damage: 90 > DPS: 56.8

The only Pokémon that Swampert players need to watch out for is Venusaur because everything Swampert does can be countered by Venusaur, including being resistant to his Sludge Wave (unlike pure Grass-type Pokémon).
