Ever since the service’s launch, there have been some Nintendo Switch games that could only be enjoyed by Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. While this may seem like a controversial decision to some, it adds more value to the service and gives some additional reasons to subscribe to it.
Being one of the biggest Nintendo Switch releases of 2022, one may wonder if Nintendo made the subscription to their online service required to enjoy Nintendo Switch Sports. Let’s see if this is the case.
Do You Need a Nintendo Switch Online Subscription to Play Nintendo Switch Sports?
Nintendo Switch Sports doesn’t need an active Nintendo Switch Online active subscription to be played, but some of its features are locked behind the online service, such as online multiplayer and some character customization options that can only be unlocked while playing online. Thankfully, you are not going to be locked out of multiplayer altogether, as you can still play local multiplayer without an active subscription.
If you have been playing games on Nintendo Switch for a while, you probably are not surprised by this, considering a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is needed to play most Switch games online, with only a few notable exceptions like Fortnite.
