Developed by Ghost Games and published by Electronic Arts, Need for Speed Payback is one of the many acclaimed racing titles in the NFS series that lets players take control of super fast cars in the open world of Fortune Valley, a fictitious replica of Las Vegas.

Need for Speed Payback is also the twenty-third instalment in the NFS series. And like other NFS games, Payback also focuses on “action driving” with up to three playable characters each having a unique set of characteristics. However, does Need for Speed Payback have split-screen co-op?

Split-screen co-op is not available in Need for Speed Payback. There’s no exact reason why the developers decided to leave out such a relevant feature but there’s really no official way around that for now.

This is a disappointment for players who were looking forward to enjoying a split-screen multiplayer experience with friends but cannot. And although Need for Speed Payback has been around for over five years, a lot of players still revisit the intense and thrilling game once in a while.

Even EA’s newest racing game and successor to Payback, Need for Speed Heat does not have split-screen co-op. For some reason, EA has decided to halt the split-screen co-op feature for its games and it’s been that way for years. However, Need for Speed Heat does have cross-play, an important feature which NFS Payback lacks.

Need for Speed Payback is always remembered for its enticing 24-hour-day-night cycle which previous Need for Speed games did not have. The game has more than 70 cars and downloadable content. If you’re a fan of Ferrari, Scion and Toyota cars, you’ll be disappointed as they are not in NFS Payback due to license concerns.

However, you can enjoy the thrill of racing with other popular car brands such as Audi, Aston Martin, Buick, Jaguar, Koenigsegg, Land Rover, Mercury, Pagani, Plymouth and the Subaru BRZ. The likes of Alfa Romeo, In, finiti, Mini, and Pontiac were added as downloadable content.
