Can Players Change to Set Battle Style in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? Answered

Our guide will tell you if there is a way to change to Set battle style in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

In past main line Pokémon games, players were able to set their battle style to one of two option: Set and Shift. By default, the games were always configured to Shift style, which is aimed to help beginners learn the ropes. Set is a more advanced option, and it’s preferred by some of the more competitive players. Today, we’re here to answer the question: Can players change to Set battle style in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Is it Possible to Change to Set Battle Style in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Before we start, here’s a brief history lesson. The Set and Shift battle styles have always been included since the very first set of games in the entire series, Pokémon Red and Blue.

As we mentioned, the games always start out on Shift style by default, but you can go into the options at any time to change it. When the battle style is set to Shift style, you are given the option to switch out your Pokémon whenever you knock out an opponent Trainer’s Pokémon.

Being able to change your Pokémon on the fly to better match whatever is coming next obviously gives you a huge advantage in battle, and that’s why the Shift style is geared towards newer players.

However, when Set style is activated, you are no longer given the opportunity to switch out Pokémon upon defeating an enemy Trainer’s Pokémon. Because of this, you must be always thinking two steps ahead in order to outwit your opponent.

If you’re familiar with professional competitive Pokémon play, you’ll know that Set style is the default, and Shift style is never used. That’s why some players who like challenges move over to Set style.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Game Freak has decided to throw this option out of the window, as you can no longer enable Set battle style in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

There’s no option for changing battle styles.

Whether this decision was to ensure that the entire game would be nice and breezy for new players to enjoy, or because of syncing issues with the new real-time multiplayer feature, we’re sure that it’s going to upset a lot of players. Hopefully this is something they can add back in with a future update.

We hope this answers your questions about whether you can change to Set battle style in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. What do you think about the Game Freak’s decision to remove the Set battle style from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? Let us know in the comments below!
