You can’t teach an old Pokémon some new moves (isn’t that how the saying goes?)—except that you can if you have the right Technical Machine (TM) recipe. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet abound with different TMs that you can use to unlock new skills for your Pokemon of different types that they can’t learn otherwise.
In this post, we will teach you how to get Pounce (TM021) in Scarlet and Violet—how to obtain the item for the first time, what materials you need for the recipe, and what it’s good for.
How to Obtain Pounce (TM021) in Scarlet and Violet
Receiving Pounce (TM021) in Scarlet and Violet will happen as you progress in the story as a part of the Victory Road questline. It is the reward players get for defeating Katy, the Cortondo Gym Leader specializing in Bug-types. Therefore, to complete this task successfully and unlock TM021, use a Fire- or Flying-type Pokémon against (Fuecoco should do nicely).
How to Get Pounce (TM021) in Scarlet and Violet After Beating Katy
If you want to copy Pounce at a Technical Machine, you will need some League Points and different Pokémon materials, earned in battling wild Pokémon or in Tera Raids.
The recipe for crafting Pounce (TM021) in Scarlet and Violet is as follows:
- 800 League Points
- Nymble Claw x3
- Tarountula Thread x3
League Points are earned by completing different missions and quests. To get Nymble Claw and Tarountula Thread, you will need to defeat these Pokémon. Nymble can be found in the West and East Provinces or Asado Desert, and you should look for Tarountula in most areas of South Province.
What Is Pounce Good For?
With this Bug-type move, your Pokémon quite literally pounces on the opponent and lowers its Speed stat by one stage. It is super effective against Grass-, Psychic-, and Dark-type Pokémon, so you will want to invest those League Points into getting Pounce (TM021) as soon as possible!
The stats for Pounce are:
- Power: 50
- Accuracy: 100
- PP: 20
