Romancing Emily in Stardew Valley
In order to romance Emily, you’ll need to get her to like you. Make sure to talk to Emily at least once every day to gain a few friendship points.
Emily is a naturally out-going and very welcoming person, and she takes the least amount of time to open up compared to the rest of the villagers. Talking builds up a bit of friendship points, but the best way to win her heart is to give her favorite gifts.
Best Gifts for Emily
In Stardew Valley, you can give one gift a day, up to a total of two gifts per week, to every villager in the game. It’s important to give Emily two gifts every week to get her to like you quickly.

By the way, Emily’s birthday is on the 11th day of Winter, and any gifts you give her on her birthday are amplified. Giving her a loved gift on her birthday will result in lots of friendship points!
Emily Personal Quests
- Fresh Fruit: On the 6th day of Spring during year 2, Emily will ask for an Apricot in a letter. Give her one, and you’ll be rewarded with 600 gold and a friendship heart.
- Rock Rejuvenation: A unique request from Emily will appear on the Special Orders board, once built. Emily asks for a Ruby, Topaz, Emerald, Jade, and Amethyst. Give her all the requested gemstones to receive 1,000 gold, 250 friendship points, and a free Sewing Machine. This quest cannot be repeated.
Emily’s Heart Events
You can check the strength of your friendship with Emily through the villagers menu. The more hearts you have, the stronger your friendship is with her.
Once you reach a certain amount of hearts with Emily, you can trigger special events known as Heart Events, which are capable of boosting your friendship even further. You’ll have to be in the right place at the right time to activate these events, so here’s a complete list.
- ♥♥♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡: Enter Emily’s house.
- ♥♥♥♥♡♡♡♡♡♡: Enter Pelican Tower on a normal day. This Heart Event cannot occur in Winter.
- ♥♥♥♥♥♥♡♡♡♡: Enter Emily’s house when she’s home. Choose either:
- “That was amazing!” or (Say nothing and do a slow clap)
- ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♡♡: You’ll get a letter in the mail that tells you to go to the Mayor’s Manor that same day. You can go another day if you miss it the first time.
- ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥: Emily sends you a letter and tells you to meet her in the Secret Woods at 10 PM or later. You’ll need a Steel Axe or greater to break the Large Log blocking the way.
- ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥: Go to your farm between 6 AM and 8:20 AM. The 14 Heart Events can only be seen if you’re married.

Keep giving Emily gifts, talk to her every day, and once she’s reached 8 Hearts, you can give her a Bouquet to start dating. Bouquets are bought from Pierre’s shop for 200 gold.
Continue to make her happy to raise her up to 10 Hearts. Once you do so, you’ll receive a letter from Mayor Lewis that instructs you on the traditional way of proposal in Stardew Valley.
Go down to the beach on a rainy day and go to the tide pools. You’ll see the spirit of an Old Mariner, who sells you the Mermaid’s Pendant for 5,000 gold. Give the Mermaid’s Pendant to Emily to marry her!
