What is JP in GTA Online? – Explained

If you’ve just started playing GTA Online, you may have collected a certain currency called Job Points, or JP. As the name suggests, these points are related to Jobs, the main activity in GTA Online. Today, we’ll explain everything you need to know and answer the question: What is JP in GTA Online?

GTA Online: Job Points (JP) Explained

Upon logging into an online session in GTA Online, you’ll begin the session with exactly zero Job Points, or JP. Whenever you complete a Job online, you’ll earn JP based on your performance.

By default, all players will receive 15 JP for simply completing the Job. Certain circumstances will reward you with more, for example if you manage to complete the main objective during a mission, you’ll receive bonus JP.

Any of these Jobs will earn you JP at the end.

For the competitive Jobs like races and deathmatches, players will receive JP based on their ranking at the end of the match. The better you do, the more JP you’ll earn.

  • 1st: 15 JP
  • 2nd: 12 JP
  • 3rd: 10 JP
  • 4th: 8 JP
  • 5th: 7 JP
  • 6th: 6 JP

This is all fine and dandy, but what exactly does JP do? Well, it’s only for one thing: More leverage during Job voting periods!

If you’re playing through random Jobs with other players, at the end of each Job you’ll get to vote on the next one. The Job that receives the most votes will be the next Job.

However, in the event of a tie, the side that has the largest sum of JP will win the tiebreaker. For example, say 3 players vote for a race, and another 3 vote for a deathmatch. The 3 players who voted for the race have more JP collectively, so then the race would be next.

That’s it, that’s all that JP does, so most players don’t even think about it. Keep in mind that if you leave your current online session, your JP will be reset back to zero, so if you want to maintain it, stay in your current session.
