Best Commanders in Rise of Kingdoms – Commander Tier List

Rise above other kingdoms with the best Commanders are your command.

Rise of Kingdoms combines real-time strategy and MMORPG to create a unique gaming experience. Players get to take control of various Commanders from different kingdoms from nearly a dozen civilizations in an attempt to rule the world. Those who want to successfully invade other kingdoms while protecting their own will need to select capable Commanders who can lead their armies.

Not all Commanders are the same, however—some are great at defending their cities but not good at invasions, and vice versa. The trick is knowing who is good and better than most. That said, here’s a quick tier list organizing the Commanders in Rise of Kingdoms.

Those included under tier lists are chosen based on their overall performance in various areas, namely in Open Field battles, Defending Cities, Rallying Cities, Rallying Objectives, and Defending Objectives. They are also selected based on players’ experiences.

S-Tier

  • Nevsky
  • Amanitore

  • Boudica Prime
  • Frederick I
  • Gilgamesh
  • Xiang
  • Flavius
  • Legendary Scipio
  • Nebu
  • YSG
  • Yi-Sun-Sin
  • Zenobia
  • Alexander
  • Guan Yu
  • Jadwiga
  • Harald

  • Chandragupta
  • Aethelflaed
  • Theodora
  • William
  • Ramesses
  • Saladin
  • Leonidas
  • Honda
  • Attila
  • Mehmed
  • Wu-Zetian
  • Cyrus
  • Mulan
  • Tomyris
  • Trajan
  • Richard
  • Takeda
  • Martel
  • Cheok
  • Bertrand

We know there are a lot of them, but all these Commanders are truly the best Rise of Kingdoms based on their overall strengths. They can pretty much take on other enemies without much trouble.

Nevsky, for example, is the best when it comes to rallying to objects, and is also the best when it comes to rallying cities and open field battles as compared to most commanders. Xiang comes second to Nevsky in those areas, but both of them are not that great when it comes to defending objects and cities. Jadwiga is the best at those two areas both Nevsky and Xiang aren’t the best at, but is not the best when it comes to rallying to cities or objects/targets. All of the Commanders in S-Tier do better than everyone below.

A-Tier

  • Edward
  • Sun Tzu
  • Moctezuma
  • G. Khan
  • Suleiman
  • Constantine
  • Lu Bu
  • El Cid
  • Minamoto
  • Jan Zizka
  • Joan of Arc
  • Ragnar
  • Barca
  • Fredrick
  • Julius-Ceasar
  • Cao Cao
  • Charlemagne

A-Tier Commanders are just a hair short compared to S-Tier Commanders in terms of performance, which means they’re good selections as well. They are balanced in terms of skills and capabilities and can shine in the hands of skilled RTS players.

Edward and Suleiman, for example, are very good at open field battles and rallying targets and cities, but not as much as the S-Tier Commanders above. They also don’t do so well in city and object defense. Charlemagne might not be as good as Edward and Suleiman at open-field battles, but he surpasses Edward in rallying toward objects and cities. All three, and the others in the A-Tier, generally do better compared to those below.

B-Tier

  • Hermann
  • Kusonoki
  • Pelagius
  • Baibars
  • Thutmose

B-Tier Commanders are slightly underpowered compared to A-Tiers and have a bit of a disadvantage, especially against S-Tier Commanders on many fronts. That said, they aren’t useless and have some strengths of their own. They can actually produce results in certain scenarios, depending on the player’s skill.

Hermann, Kusunoki, and Pelagius might be ranked lower than the Commanders in S-Tier and A-Tier, but they are actually better than some (Nevsky, Xiang, Edward, and Suleiman, for example) when it comes to defending cities. They cannot do as well in other aspects, but they can be relied on for this task if other Commanders aren’t available.

C-Tier

  • Boudica
  • Belisarius
  • Keira
  • Osman
  • Scipio

C-Tier Commanders are underpowered and are weak against most Commanders from every tier level. You shouldn’t ignore them if they’re your enemies, though, as they can steal and cause problems for you if you’re not careful.

Boudica, Belisarius, and Osman, for example, are not that good at open-field battles compared to most Commanders above, but they can hold their own early in the game. They can also poke at stronger Commanders from time to time, but shouldn’t face them head-on unless there’s no choice. That said, they can still do considerable damage if you let them.

D-Tier

  • Lohar

D-Tier Commanders are the weakest in the game, period. They might have niche uses, but they are underperformers. Lohar, currently the only one in this tier, performs worst in all areas, whether it be open-field battles, rallying towards objects and cities, or defending objects and cities.

And that’s it for our Rise of Kingdoms Commanders Tier List. Keep in mind that overall success in the game still largely depends on the player’s skill, not just the Commander’s attributes and specialties. While the latter can help, the player’s strategies are still the most important factor in winning the game.
