There are two versions of MLB The Show 23: The regular edition, and the captain edition, which is essentially the more expensive limited collector’s version of the game.

The regular edition of MLB The Show 23 features Miami Marlins player Jazz Chisholm Jr. as the cover athlete, as shown above. He is the second baseman and center fielder for the Miami Marlins and has been playing for them since 2020.

Chisholm Jr. started his baseball career by signing on with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2015 as a free agent. From there, he moved around several independent teams, including the Missoula Osprey, Kane County Cougars, Visalia Rawhide, and Jackson Generals. He was traded to the Miami Marlins in 2019.

The captain edition of MLB The Show 23 features Derek Jeter, the retired New York Yankees player. Unlike the regular edition, the artwork featured on the captain edition is more stylized and cartoon-like.

Fittingly, Derek Jeter served as the team captain for the Yankees starting in 2003, all the way to his retirement in 2014. Also notable is that Jeter appeared as the cover athlete for multiple baseball video games in the past, including MLB 2K5 – 2K7, All-Star Baseball, and Derek Jeter Pro Baseball 2008.
