If you’re a fan of medieval battles, with all the expected blood and gore, you know how difficult it is to choose the weapon to obliterate your enemy in the true armored knight fashion. The Middle Ages maybe didn’t have guns, but it was a period of creativity in the melee and ranged weaponry department.

Mordhau brings you realistic medieval combat with an overwhelmingly big arsenal of weapons to choose from. To save you some time, we have compiled our list of the best weapons in Mordhau so that you can always know what piece you can count on.
The Best Weapons in Mordhau
We have chosen the following weapons based on their overall power and our experiences in the game. Still, not all of these pieces will suit every player and their approach to the game, so feel free to take our list with a pinch of salt and let us know what your favorites are in the comments below.
So, without further ado, we present you our top five weapons in Mordhau in no particular order.
Zweihander
This two-handed sword is massive and cumbersome—no wonder its name (“two-hander” in German). Even though it comes at a speed cost, its damage power is amazing:
- Head damage: 115/100/70/50
- Torso damage: 100/85/55/40
- Leg damage: 70/65/40/39
For all these reasons and its long reach, you are better off using it against groups of enemies instead of in one-on-one combat. Also, keep in mind that it is a 24-point piece, which means that you won’t be able to equip much more besides Zweihander.
Halberd
Another two-handed favorite, a halberd seems to have it all—versatility, excellent range, and immense power. Yes, it is another 24-point piece, which will dominate your gear slots, but we could argue that it’s worth it. Its stats are quite similar to Zweihander’s:
- Head damage: 115/100/70/48
- Torso damage: 100/75/55/40
- Leg damage: 85/65/45/37
You can swing it around almost at a full circle, which will make your enemies flee in horror. Therefore, if you can get your hands on this weapon, go for it as soon as possible.
Recurve Bow
The crossbow might be a tad more powerful when it comes to sheer numbers, but the Recurve Bow is our favorite ranged weapon in Mordhau for its speed AND power. Also, with 18 points, it is not as heavy on your gear slots as the crossbow. The damage the recurve bow deals goes as follows:
- Head damage: 100/70/46/45
- Torso damage: 50/40/26/25
- Leg damage: 40/34/25/22
These numbers clearly tell you to go for headshots whenever you can, and if you can get the Huntsman perk, you can increase the head and torso damage 2.3 times.
Scimitar
Talking about head damage, we cannot skip Scimitar. It is one of the coolest-looking swords in the game, but it packs a punch too—just check out its stats:
- Head damage: 125/100/50/40
- Torso damage: 100/75/40/35
- Leg damage: 85/60/35/25
Even though it is one of the most point-heavy one-handed weapons, Scimitar is fast, which is perfect for combos, and has a great range for a weapon from this category.
Maul
This weapon may seem like an odd choice because we could argue that there are many detriments to using it, but it is the Middle Ages after all—a maul blow in the head will most likely finish any skirmish in the true medieval fashion. The numbers confirm it all:
- Head damage: 100/100/100/100
- Torso damage: 85/83/67/66
- Leg damage: 75/73/66/65
However, don’t think you’ll be able to wield it so successfully as a complete beginner. The Maul requires some skill to compensate for its short reach and slow swing speed.
Those were our favorite weapons in Mordhau. Let us know how these work out for you and don’t skip our guide on how to level up quickly in this realistic medieval game.
