Tears of the Kingdom: Can You Register an Undead Horse in TotK?

Our guide determines whether you can keep one of the skeletal horses forever in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Night owls who love to venture through the fields of Hyrule may encounter what seems to be undead horses running through certain fields. These nightmare creatures behave just like regular horses, so does that mean you can keep them like a normal horse too? We are here to answer the question: Can you register an undead horse in Tears of the Kingdom?

Is it possible to register an undead horse in Tears of the Kingdom?

In certain areas of the surface of Hyrule, you may encounter undead horses known as Stalhorses. You can find lots of Stalhorses wandering the fields around the horse statue in the Sanidin Park Ruins during the night, located within Hyrule Ridge.

Stalhorses were once ordinary horses that fell in battle, and the corruption of gloom has revived them in a skeletal form. Despite their appearances, Stalhorses still contain the same free spirit of a normal horse, and can be temporarily tamed like one as well.

Stalhorses look super cool, so of course the first thing we did was take them to a stable to register them. Stable owners are understandably frightened by Stalhorses, and refuse to take them in out of fear, so you cannot register these undead horses, sadly.

Even more tragic is that Stalhorses cease to exist when the sun rises, so say your goodbyes before 5 AM rolls around. If you ever want to go for a cool ride again, you can find them in the same spot at night.

Stalhorses also exist underground in the depths, and there they roam free forever. Since the sun’s rays cannot reach the depths, the Stalhorses in the depths can be ridden for as long as you like! As such, Stalhorses are a lot more common in the depths.

Exploring the depths is a lot easier with a Stalhorse, as they can run over gloom without being harmed. Since the gloom is all over the place in the depths, Stalhorses make it very easy to get around.
