Not all Final Fantasy 16 weapons were created equal. While you might get overwhelmed by the selection of more than 20 different swords that you can acquire over the course of the game, Flametongue is one of the best swords that you can get in the first part of the latest addition to the Final Fantasy franchise.
However, acquiring any piece of gear or weapon in Final Fantasy XVI that is worth your time is not easy. Flametongue brings great buffs to your attack power, but you will need to jump through several hoops to craft it. In this guide, we explain everything there is to know on how to get Flametongue unique weapon in Final Fantasy XVI.

How to Get the Flametongue Sword in Final Fantasy XVI
To get the Flametongue sword in Final Fantasy XVI, you will need to progress in the main story to quest number 23 called The Meaning of Life, gather the necessary materials, and craft the sword at the Hideaway.
The reason you can’t really get this sword sooner is the fact that you get key crafting components for Flametongue by completing preceding main quests. To craft Flametongue in FFXVI, you will need to obtain:
- Stormcry sword
- Fire Shard x1
- Meteorite x1
You will be able to craft Stormcry a bit before, and after finishing the main quest called Awakening (you will need Storm Shard obtained by defeating Garuda). Getting Fire Shard, on the other hand, will be even more challenging because you can only obtain it by defeating the Infernal Eikon at the end of the previous quest called Buried Memories.
Meteorite is a little bit easier to find—you may already have some on you when you get to this point as Meteorite drops from bosses and mini-bosses or can be found in treasure chests scattered across Final Fantasy 16’s vast map.
Once you have all the components, you can have Blackthorne the blacksmith craft it for you at the Hideaway. With 180 base damage, I’d say this sword was quite worth all that trouble!
