Many Minecraft fans, whether they encounter this legendary game for the first time or are already seasoned players, wanted to bring some new colors into their world of cubes.
That’s why the developers and the players themselves have made it possible to insert new skins for all possible textures in the game, which brings a new note of liveliness.
In this article, we will present to you what these skins are, how to and what they do, and a list of the best skins for Minecraft.
What are Minecraft Skins?
Even though “Minecraft skin” may sound odd, all they do is change the appearance of your in-game character, in other words, how you look. Picking a skin is one of the first things you do in Minecraft and it’s all up to you what you want to look like! Many players pick their own, custom appearances, but there are also “default skins” such as Steve and Alex, that you can choose from. The important thing to know is that you can take the appearance of anything, really!
A Minecraft skin is like a big pixel painting that is wrapped around your character. It got its definitely-not-creepy name because, just like an animal skin, it’s totally flat. Skins also come in different sizes.
Steve’s skin, for example, is mapped to the “classic” blocky character shape we all know and love, while Alex is on a “slim” model, which is basically the same, except that the arms are thinner and the shoulders slightly lower. Steve’s arms are also four pixels wide, while Alex’s arms are three pixels wide.
It might not sound like much, but it makes a big difference visually. If you ever decide on creating your own skin, be sure to choose the arm thickness you prefer!
How to Use Minecraft Skins?
First of all, let’s distinguish Java Edition, Vs Bedrock Edition Vs Minecraft PE of the Minecraft.
Minecraft: Pocket Edition (informally known as MCPE or PE) was the former title of the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft developed by Mojang Studios for mobile devices before 1.2.0, although subsequent builds are still commonly (if erroneously) referred to as Pocket Edition.
Pocket Edition introduced the Bedrock Engine, which was later ported to non-mobile platforms as four other editions of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition, Gear VR Edition, Apple TV Edition, and Fire TV Edition. When these editions received the Better Together Update, the “Edition” subtitle was removed, and the official name for all of these editions became Minecraft.
To assist with clarification, the Minecraft community referred to these versions collectively as Bedrock Edition due to Bedrock being the name of the C++ codebase from which they all derive.
Anyway, the Skins are divided into areas that act as the surface area of the character (for example, the front head area, left leg area, etc.). There are a total of 3,264 pixels that can be customized, with 1,632 on each layer. Skins with slim arms have 3,136 pixels, with 1568 pixels on each layer. The second layer can be used to give the character glasses, hats, or other accessories (even a bigger head).
In Java Edition, a skin allows only a solid color; transparency is not allowed on the skin file except on the second layer, which is transparent by default; playing offline, pixels can be left free resulting in “holes” in the skin. If a skin with transparent pixels on the first layer is uploaded, the transparent pixels render as black pixels in-game.
In Bedrock Edition, skins can have double the resolution of a normal skin. This means the skin template can be up to 128×128 instead of just 64×64. The normal templates still apply, but players get 4× the number of pixels to work with since both dimensions have been doubled. Transparency can be used, even on the first layer, though there needs to be at least one visible pixel, so a fully invisible skin can’t be made. The transparency must also be 0% or 100% as translucent colors are not allowed in either layer.
The pixel size of the 2nd layer on the body, arms, and legs is 0.25 pixels bigger than the skin pixel (inner layer). For head’s 2nd layer (Hat layer) is 0.5 pixels bigger than the skin layer (inner layer).
If you want to craft unique skin, then you can do that, too. Minecraft skins can show off your personality, your culture, your preferred movies, and the achievements you’ve unlocked, and can help you identify people on a shared server. There are a few ways to equip a new skin on your character: You can buy skins, unlock them, and even collect a few from special events.

How to Download Skins for Minecraft PE?
As said above, skin is a file you need to download and insert into game files to make it work correctly. Therefore, you should download the required skin from the internet before uploading it to the game. There is no need to worry because skins are mostly in .PNG format and do not exceed a few MBs. Also, skins do not affect the FPS so you can download them even if you use old devices.
How to do that?
- Open the game.
- Click on the clothing hanged icon located just below your character.
- Tap on the empty space near Steve’s skin.
- Click on the button Choose New Skin.
Doing that, it will open the special File Manager, in which you will be able to use the required skin.
Note* Make sure to check the Downloads folder. Most downloaded skins from the internet are saved here.
Finally, click the Confirm Skin button, and feel free to use any attractive skin in Minecraft PE.
In conclusion, the only problem with installing skins in Minecraft PE is finding the appropriate skin. Once you find it, only a few minutes and a couple of simple steps are required to install this skin to the game.
