Apple Announces Apple Arcade: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Just when some people were thinking that it will never pass the rumor stage, Apple announced the new Apple Arcade game subscription, and it has everything you might’ve wanted and a little more: featuring over 100 new and original games at launch, it will allow players of all ages to play anything and everything, without unexpected interruptions from ads. The games can even be played offline!

So in today’s article, we will share with you all the details that you need to know about the upcoming Apple Arcade. This could be a real game changer – no pun intended.

When it comes to the new subscription service, Apple is handpicking the games that will be available there, while also contributing to their development costs! They are working with the developers (which are some pretty cool, well-known ones) and have done their utmost to bring the games to life!

Some of the developers (which I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of) are: Cartoon Network, Klei Entertainment, Bossa Studios, SEGA, Konami, LEGO, Giant Squid, Finji and many more. The games will feature amazing and fun gameplay, combined with entertaining storylines and graphics, so it’s something that one just cannot pass on!

Although Apple hasn’t announced the entire line-up of games to be available when the service launches, we know that we’ll have brand new games like: Where Cards Fall, The Pathless, LEGO Brawls and Hot Lava. This is already exciting stuff! We’re going to share with you a complete list of games announced for Apple Arcade, so stay tuned!

The Apple Arcade subscribers will have a new way to access their games collections, which will not be available on other mobile platforms or subscriptions. However, with this subscription they will have an opportunity to play any of the games provided without receiving ads, additional purchases, or ad tracking!

In other words, this is like a Humble Bundle where you get to keep all the games you pay for, and with 100 titles at launch and more coming afterwards, you’ll have a huge library of games available anytime, anywhere.

That makes this subscription very useful for people who greatly value their privacy, as well as ideal for children, as there can be no risks of clicking on shady ads or making IAPs by mistakenly tapping on the screen. Therefore, parents, your e-wallets are safe!

But that’s not everything! The games available within the subscription will be playable offline, and if you own a game controller, guess what? Many of the games offer support for them as well! So whether you play from an iPhone, iPad, Apple TV or Mac, you can pick up where you left off at any time!

Apple Arcade will be available in autumn 2019 in more than 150 countries, and you will be able to access it from a new tab on the App Store. You can find out more about it on the official website.

Currently, the most important part of the equation is missing: the price. Apple have not announced how much gamers are expected to pay monthly to have access to the premium games and there are currently no rumors about that either.

Even more, it’s not clear right now if the exclusive games will be exclusive to the Apple Arcade, or iOS exclusives, meaning that you can still purchase them from the App Store individually.

Either way, this is indeed a game changer and the upcoming subscription service might help both developers and gamers. But with free to play games becoming more and more popular with each passing day, we’re curious to see how successful this new feature will be. I personally hope that there’s still room for high quality premium games on mobiles.

But what do you think? Will the Apple Arcade be as popular as most Apple services and products? Or players are no longer ready to spend real life money on games, especially when we have so many freemium titles available on mobile?

I have been playing games ever since I can remember. My passion for video games and especially pixel graphic games must have started back when I was little, because every time I try a new game with pixel graphics I immediately fall addicted to it! I started writing about mobile games in November 2018, focusing on creating in-depth guides for the most popular titles out there. Other than games, I am also passionate about design, and working on my very own pixel game in my free time.
