2014 is going to be the year of roguelike games, a video game genre that has existed for a very long time but has never managed to become popular for a few different reasons. We’re talking about some really involving games that require effort to be enjoyed and completed.
As strange as it may sound, mobile devices are probably one of the best ways to enjoy them, as playing them on the go for small amount of times seems to allow gamers not used to this kind of gameplay experience to enjoy and even complete them. A daunting task, but not as daunting as it used to be years ago it seems.
A new roguelike game has just been announced, a game that sports quite a lot of unique features that make it stand out from the competition. We’re talking about Proven Lands, a sandbox roguelike game launching on PC and iOS in the future. Granted that the upcoming Kickstarter campaign is successful.
In Proven Lands you will have to survive inside an alien world after crash landing on it. The roguelike experience will be mostly focused on the survival aspects, with players having to find water and food and sharper their survival skills.
The game’s world is procedurally generated and can go on forever. Inside the many different locations of the game will be enemies to defeat, items to find and quests. A mood, trait, and ambition system will also be included, making character behavior unpredictable at times. Something that must be taken into account before starting a fight, as permanent death is always right behind the corner.
Proven Lands will be released on iOS in the future. A kickstarter campaign is going to be launched soon. In the meantime, you can learn more about the game by checking out its official website.
