Dragon Quest XI S

Dragon Quest XI S Is A Stunning Conversion, According To In-Depth Tech Analysis

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Dragon Quest XI S has been available on Nintendo Switch for around a month now, and many who have purchased the PlayStation 4 or PC versions may not feel the need to get the game again, whether due to the perceived value of the new content or to the obvious graphics downgrade. The latter, however, is not a major issue, as Square Enix developed a great port that runs great on the console and hides its shortcomings well.

Digital Foundry recently released its full technical analysis of Dragon Quest XI S, noting how the drop in resolution and the removal of many graphical effects has impacted the game only a little, as the changes made to lighting and other elements make it so the removed effects don’t impact the visuals too much. Dynamic resolution is also well implemented so that the game looks and runs best in any given situation.

Dragon Quest XI S includes new content not found in the original release, such as new character stories that further develop the party members, and a lot of quality of life improvements, such as the ability to use the forge at any time, the ability to purchase missing ingredients from the menu and more.

Extremely welcome are the new battle speed options, which speed up battles considerably. Also added to Dragon Quest XI S are subquests only found in the 3DS release as well as a 2D mode, which allows players to play the game as if it were a classic Dragon Quest game.

Dragon Quest XI S is now available on Nintendo Switch.
