Pokemon Sword And Shield will finally release later this week worldwide, but the games are already being criticized by long-time fans of the series due to some of the games’ features, such as the limited Pokedex and more.
In the current gaming era, post-launch updates allow developers to expand on their games, but it seems like the Pokedex issue will not be fixed after the games release.
Speaking with InsideGamer, as translated by Nintendo Everything, producer Junichi Masuda confirmed that there are no plans to expand the Pokedex after Pokemon Sword And Shield release. He also pretty much confirmed that future titles will also not include all of the Pokemon.
We currently have no plans to make the Pokemon that are missing from the Galar Pokedex available in-game. This is an approach that we want to continue with in future Pokemon games. Up until now it hasn’t been possible to encounter every Pokemon in every game, so people had to transfer them from old games to the new game, by using Pokemon Bank for example.
This doesn’t mean that Pokemon that do not appear in Pokemon Sword And Shield will not appear in future games, only that the complete Pokedex will become a thing of the past.
While this was expected, it’s still disappointing to learn. The series’ catchphrase “Gotta Catch’em All” definitely lost some of its meaning.
Pokemon Sword And Shield launch on November 15th worldwide on Nintendo Switch.
