This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Big news came last week with the latest update to Asphalt 8: Airborne. Gameloft and Twitch, the online streaming service for gamers, announced a partnership. Starting with Asphalt 8, gamers will be able to stream their gameplay online via Twitch. The update, currently optimized for the iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and iPad mini with Retina display, will allow players to stream gameplay of Asphalt 8 live, and will be able to use their channel’s chatroom while streaming. Players will be also using the front facing camera and device microphone to allow voice and video footage of them playing. As part of the press release, Baudouin Corman, Gameloft’s VP of Publishing, said:

“This first-ever mobile game integration with Twitch opens the door for gamers to broadcast and share game play experiences like never before. As one of our most popular games, Asphalt 8: Airborne made perfect sense to integrate the Twitch mobile SDK, and we can’t wait to see the excitement it brings to our users.”

With the development kit for Twitch streaming already released, this could be a new way of experiencing game streaming. Like Kamcord, the serivce that allows players to make and share play throughs in game, Twitch streaming will be on game by game basis. The developers will have to choose to put Twitch streaming into the game via an update, like Gameloft did with Asphalt 8.

Hopefully, Twitch streaming will be available for most iOS devices soon. Being able to stream gameplays from anywhere with an internet connection will open up new possibilities in the iOS gaming world.. Until then, you can read the whole press release about Gameloft and Twitch’s partnership here.
