This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

With Christmas closer than ever, the release of new mobile games has slowed down a bit as the entire world seems to have turned their attention to the incoming winter holidays.

But, even though now wearing elf-hats and Santa-goggles and other goofy stuff like that, the Steel Media Alliance members kept working hard to deliver the best news and stories in the mobile gaming world this past week – and I’m here today to do a short recap and make sure that you don’t miss any of the big stories of last week. Because we had quite a few of those!

But before we start – since I’ve mentioned the upcoming Christmas holidays already, why not check out some great gadgets for Christmas recommended by out friends over at iPhone Glance? Maybe you’ll find some inspiration for last-minute gift planning!

Best New Mobile Games Last Week

I’ll start by looking back at a week that wasn’t as filled as others in terms of newsworthy stories, but still with more than just crickets singing and awkward silence. For example, we started the week finding out the new Star Wars-themed event in Fortnite, which really drew a lot of attention (and comments – good or bad) from the community.

Another news that got everybody buzzing – and you probably heard it a thousand times already – is that Black Desert Mobile has finally been launched and everybody can play it now. From the looks of it, everybody IS playing it, but that’s another story…

If you are one of the few who hasn’t tried it yet, make sure to head over to Blue Moon Game and check out their Black Desert mobile review, then hop straight into the game and start your winning streak by following their tips and tricks for the game.

Another thing that’s got people buzzing – quite literally this time – is the new Minecraft update, Buzzy Bees. As its name suggests, it introduces bees to the world of Minecraft, as well as other honeylicious goodies, like honey blocks, beehives and more.

Last but not least and especially for Monster Hunter fans, we have great news: a new mobile game inspired by Capcom’s popular series has been released! Titled Dauntless, it seems to be exactly what you need if you’re done with slaughtering pigs and turkeys for the winter holidays!

Existing games are getting some nice holiday treatment as well: for example, Marvel Contest of Champions celebrated its 5th anniversary with a brand new trailer that shows there are more surprises coming in the future. Great news for fans of Marvel and the game itself!

Finally, we got word from our friends at 148 Apps that upcoming relaxing game Abyssrium Pole by Flero Games just hit 1 million pre-registers: that’s mighty impressive for any time of game, but even more so for a casual one. Probably proves that we do need to relax a bit after accumulating stress this entire year…

Best mobile game of the year?

At the end of the year, it is customary to look back and create all sorts of charts, top lists and whatnot. In the world of mobile gaming, selecting a “game of the year” makes a lot of sense, even though it’s probably one of the most difficult tasks ever, considering the sheer number of games released each year.

And with budgets getting bigger and bigger, while our phones improve to put laptops to shame, many of these mobile games are really, really good.

As a result, we rarely even try to rank all those awesome games: we know it’s virtually impossible – but others do. And one of the best known events of this kind is the Game Awards, which this year crowned Call of Duty Mobile as the best game on mobile.

While we truly love CoD Mobile and I’m personally playing it heavily even today, there might’ve been some more complex and worthy games for the award. I’m not the only one who thinks this – Pocket Gamer also ask the question: is CoD Mobile really the best mobile game this year?

I’d be really curious to know what you think – so don’t hold back and let us all know, in the comments section below, what’s your pick for the best mobile game of this year.
