Since the launching of the Nintendo Switch Online Service, Nintendo has offered Cloud Saves support for most of its titles, allowing players to save a backup of their save files online in case something happens to the local save.
It has been recently revealed that this feature will not be supported in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and fans didn’t take the news particularly well. Thankfully, it seems like Nintendo is trying to find a way to please these fans.
On the Japanese Animal Crossing: New Horizons website, as spotted by Nintendo Life, Nintendo confirmed that they are considering supporting backing up save data for the game.
This software does not support “Save Data Storage” of Nintendo Switch Online, but in case of failure, loss or theft of the Nintendo Switch [console], we are considering a function to back up save data. Use of this function is limited to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Correspondence time is undecided. We will inform you as soon as the time is decided.
The wording makes it sound like it is going to be something a little different than usual Cloud Saves, so it is likely Nintendo is going to make save data back-up for Animal Crossing: New Horizons work differently than for other games.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches on March 20th worldwide exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
