Years after its original release, The Wonderful 101 continues to be among the most unique games developed by Platinum Games. The game is also among the best games very few have played, as it released on Wii U, which is among the less popular Nintendo consoles ever released. As such, Platinum Games and director Hideki Kamiya felt like they had to give the game a second chance.
Speaking with Nintendo Everything, Hideki Kamiya himself confirmed that The Wonderful 101 has been remastered due to the low sales of the original Wii U release. The team was rather disappointed in the low sales, as they knew they had made a great game. The Kickstarter campaign has given The Wonderful 101 the visibility it always deserved, and Nintendo allowing Platinum Games to port the game to other platforms made everything possible.
I mean, it was really disappointing for us, you know? We worked so hard to make this high quality game and we were hoping a lot of gamers would play it, but that didn’t really pan out. So as a result of our negotiations, the kindness of Nintendo has made both the ports and this campaign possible.
There’s no way to properly describe Wonderful 101. At its very core, the game is a character action game in the vein of the others developed by Platinum Games, but it also so much more, as the gameplay experience is incredibly varied, featuring elements from many other genres like shooter games and others. Now that the game is releasing on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam, The Wonderful 101 will surely become a favorite of many.
The Wonderful 101: Remastered launches on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC on a yet to be confirmed release date.
