The Kingdom Hearts series is set to make its debut on Nintendo Switch with Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, and fans are hopeful to see other games to hit the console in the future. Sadly, it seems like this isn’t happening for any of the older main entries in the series.
Speaking with Nintendo Enthusiast, series’ creator Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that there are no plans to bring other Kingdom Hearts to Nintendo Switch. Square Enix apparently considered porting other existing games in the series, but the process proved to be technologically difficult, and so things did not proceed.
While the Nintendo Switch is more than capable of running the older entries in the series, the technical difficulties are most likely related to making the games run well in both docked and handheld mode, and not developing a game natively for the console, or developing it with a potential port in mind, may make it impossible for it to release on Nintendo Switch without some major reworking.
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will be the first rhythm game ever made for the series. The game will feature most of the series’ characters and 140 songs.
The Nintendo Switch version of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will also come with a Free for all mode that will not be available in the other versions of the game.
Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory launches on Nintendo Switch on November 13th.
