Santorini is a non-abstract re-imagining of the 2004 edition. Since its original inception over 30 years ago, Santorini has been endlessly developed, enhanced and refined by mathematician and educator, Dr. Gordon Hamilton.
Santorini is a highly accessible pure strategy game that is simple enough for an elementary school classroom. But with enough gameplay depth and content for even hardcore gamers to explore, Santorini is truly a game for everyone.
Santorini is highly addictive for strategy-driven minds. This game can be quite competitive as well since players will try to get to the top of the buildings and win the game ASAP.
There are quite a few rules to keep in mind, but overall players will have to rely on their cards and on the strengths they provide in order to win, or slow down opponents that are ahead.
#2. On the Underground
The massive network of London Underground stations makes up one of the most complex transportation systems in the world, and On the Underground challenges you to develop it. Build the most successful lines, connect them to landmarks, and attract passenger traffic!
This game similar in a way to Ticket to Ride, so players who are familiar with that title might find it easier to discover better ways to link the tunnels in On the Underground. But worry not – if you’re a complete beginner, the game is very easy to grasp and you will not get lost in the rulebook, as would be the case in many other tabletop games.
#3. Herd Mentality
This is a party game for families, friends and cow rustlers. The aim of the game is simple: think like the herd and write down the same answers as your friends.
If your answer is part of the majority, you all win cows. Yeehaw! If everyone else writes an answer that is matched by at least one other person, but yours is the odd one out, then you land the angry Pink Cow, and your herd of cows is worthless until you can offload it onto someone else.
The first player to collect eight cows wins!
Herd Mentality is another fun game that you can play with your family and friends, and it is all about thinking similar answers as the people you play with. Don’t get fooled by how easy it seems though! Once you dive right in, it’s going to be a lot more challenging than you might think.

Queen Gimnax has ordered the reclamation of the northern lands. As a cartographer in her service, you are sent to map this territory, claiming it for the Kingdom of Nalos. Through official edicts, the queen announces which lands she prizes most, and you will increase your reputation by meeting her demands. But you are not alone in this wilderness. The Dragul contest your claims with their outposts, so you must draw your lines carefully to reduce their influence. Reclaim the greatest share of the queen’s desired lands and you will be declared the greatest cartographer in the kingdom.
In Cartographers, players compete to earn the most reputation stars by the time four seasons have passed. Each season, players draw on their map sheets and earn reputation by carrying out the queen’s edicts before the season is over. The player with the most reputation stars at the end of winter wins!
If you are fascinated by cartography and like to design beautiful maps, then you should give Cartographers a shot. In this game, players will be tasked to create a map assigned by the queen and collect points in the process.

You are bird enthusiasts — researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors — seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your aviary. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats.
Each habitat focuses on a key aspect of the growth of your aviary:
• Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower
• Lay eggs using marbled egg miniatures in a variety of colors

Wingspan is a beautiful game, where you get to attract and admire beautiful birds. You will collect cards and other resources and try to win by having the most points at the end of the final round.

A Dark Fantasy deck building Game. Character driven combat with thematic decks. Choose a Hero and battle a friend or team up against a powerful villain.
For those of you in love with deck-building games and card games in general, The Veil is a fun alternative choice, packed into a tabletop game. It’s slightly different than the other names on this list, but that’s exactly what makes it a fun game. Try it out and let me know what you think!
#7. Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers
Thousands of years before the people of Carcassonne built mighty walls and castles, their ancestors settled the land. They hunted wild animals, gathered berries, and caught fish to ensure their daily survival and continued prosperity. Even today, fantastic cave paintings and prehistoric data testify to the vibrant life that existed many generations ago.
This is one of my absolute favorite games on Tabletopia nowadays, ever since the pre-COVID times. I’ve spent hours playing this with friends, and trust me when I say – it never gets boring! It’s one of the few games that will challenge your memory, your creativity, and your strategic brain. I definitely suggest you give it a shot!
#8. Mint Works
Mint Works is a light and straight forward worker placement game. Its compact size makes it easy to put in your pocket and take it anywhere. Its simple rules make it easy to introduce new players to the genre of worker placement.
During the game each player will have a limited amount of mint tokens, which represent their workers.
Players will use these mints to earn more mints, take starting player or buy plans and build buildings.
Buildings are how players earn points. Some buildings will only give points, others will give extra powers to their owner.
Once any player has at least 7 points earned (or if there are not enough plans to refill the supply) the end of the game is triggered. The game will then be over at the end of the current round.
Whoever has the most points provided by their buildings built wins!
Once you grasp the rules of the game, Mint Works is a fun little game that you can play during any break, since rounds take usually around 10-15 minutes (max). It’s a quick and fun game, that you can play alone or with friends!
#9. Paperback
Word-building meets deck-building in the unique game Paperback. Players start with a deck of letter cards and wild cards. Each hand they form words, and purchase more powerful letters based on how well their word scored. Most letters have abilities that activate when they are used in a word, such as drawing more cards or double letter score. Players buy wilds to gain victory points. Variant included for cooperative play.
Paperback is another little game that you can learn quickly and enjoy with another player (or players). I find this game super fun, especially since I like Scrabble as well (although they are way different).
#10. Sub Terra
Sub Terra is a cooperative survival horror board game. You and up to five friends are cave explorers who have become trapped deep underground. You must quickly explore a tile-based cave system to find the way out before your flashlights die and you’re lost in the darkness forever.
You’ll need to work together to overcome deadly subterranean hazards – stick together for safety, or split up to cover more ground. One wrong step could knock you unconscious and your friends will need to stage a rescue. Light and hope are scarce. And worst of all, you don’t think you’re alone down here…
Sub Terra is a game that I’ve played mostly solo (sadly), but I am sure there are some super-duper interesting activities in the co-op mode. If you are a fan of horror tabletop games, this is a title you should most definitely not skip!
