2021 marks The Legend of Zelda series’ 35th Anniversary, and the celebration will begin with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on Nintendo Switch in a few months.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the final Zelda game released on Nintendo Wii, and the only modern entry in the series that had yet to receive the HD treatement. The Nintendo Switch version of the game will come with enhanced graphics but also some gameplay tweaks and new options.
The original The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword featured motion controls heavily, allowing players to use Link’s sword and shield using the Wiimote and Nunchuck. The old controllers will be replaced by Joy-Con controllers, which can be used as motion controllers or as regular, standard controllers. The introduction of regular controllers was pretty much a necessity to make the game compatible with the Nintendo Switch Lite.
Even though The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was the only Zelda game announced as part of the series’ 35th Anniversary celebrations, it seems like other games are also hitting the Switch in the future. A couple of well-known journalist have hinted a few hours ago that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, which both received the HD treatement on Wii U, will also make their way onto the Switch in the future.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD launches on Nintendo Switch on July 16.
