Copper Ore is one of the new ores added in the new 1.17 update, the first half of the highly anticipated Caves & Cliffs update. Since we’ve only got one half of the new update pack, there’s only a couple of things you can do with copper at the moment. Today’s guide focuses on what can you do with copper in Minecraft!
What can You do with Copper
Raw copper can be smelted in a furnace just like any other ore to produce copper ingots. You can also combine nine pieces of raw copper to create a full block of copper ore. Copper ingots can be used to craft three things: blocks of copper, lightning rods, and spyglasses.
Blocks of copper are created with nine copper ingots. They are used for decorative purposes, though they have a rather unique feature to them. Copper blocks will eventually oxidize over time, giving them a greenish color. You can apply honeycomb to a block of copper to get a block of waxed copper, which prevents oxidation.
Four blocks of copper can create cut copper, which can be used in typical building construction recipes, like stairs and slabs.

Lightning rods are crafted with three copper ingots in a single column. During thunderstorms, lightning rods will begin to emit particles to signify it’s working. If lightning strikes a nearby area, the strike will be diverted to the lightning rod instead. This can be helpful for preventing fires from breaking out.
Spyglasses are crafted with two copper ingots and one amethyst shard. Spyglasses allow the player to zoom in on a specific location. For budding adventurers, the spyglass is a useful tool to scope out your surroundings and locate points of interest.
