Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

How to Unlock Multiplayer in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin may not play like the main entries in the popular series, being a more traditional Japanese role-playing game, but this doesn’t mean that the series most important mechanics haven’t made the jump. While not as central as they are in the main games, the multiplayer modes in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin provide a very nice diversion that also lets you obtain some very useful resources that can be used in the main campaign.

How to Unlock Multiplayer in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Multiplayer in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is completely optional, so it is not available from the start of the game. To access the two modes included in the game, you will have to make some progress in the main campaign until you reach Alcala. Here, you will have to get to the area’s fourth town and access the Quest Board to pick up Expedition quests. Unlike for other quests, you will need Tickets to play them.

The available multiplayer modes in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin are Versus Battles and Co-Op Quests.

Versus Battles

Versus Battles are simple 1v1 or 2v2 battles where you and your opponents pick a party of three monsters and battle it out until only one is left standing. No matter their current level, all monsters are at Level 50 for Versus Battles for balancing, but you still do get some advantages depending on your rider’s stats, how you use the Kinship Gauge for unleashin Ride attacks and the potions you bring to the battle. For the rest, it is mostly a matter of luck, as players pick the attack they want to use at the same time, so there’s no way to come up with strategies on the fly.

Co-Op Quests

In true Monster Hunter fashion, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin also features Co-Op quests where two players explore different areas and dungeons together to defeat a final boss while keeping their current level and character progression. Resource points and treasure chests are randomized, so players may end up getting different rewards. Once the boss has been defeated, players will return to the main campaign, but they will get to keep the money and resources they have gathered, making Co-Op Quests an excellent grinding method that is also incredibly fun.
