Pigs are friendly mobs that wander around the world of Minecraft, looking for the next thing to oink at. Pigs are a good source of porkchops, which are excellent food items. To establish a steady supply of porkchops, you’ll need to start your own pig farm, which requires you to feed them their favorite foods. Today, we are here to answer the question: what do pigs eat in Minecraft?
What do Pigs Eat?
Pigs are generally found wandering aimlessly around grassy biomes. You’ll need to lure them back to your home with their favorite foods if you’re looking to start your own pig farm.
In Minecraft, pigs love to eat carrots, potatoes, and beetroots. You must travel to a Village or Dungeon in order to find your first vegetables, or hope for a lucky random drop from zombies. You can plant them directly in your own farm once you have at least one vegetable.
Any of the three vegetables work for feeding pigs, but we recommend using beetroots. Carrots and potatoes can be used as a decent temporary food source, but beetroots are really only used for dye. You can combine six beetroots and a bowl to make soup, but a single baked potato recovers just about as much hunger as beetroot soup does.

To feed a pig, simply hold any of the three vegetables in your hand and then use it while looking at the pig. Feeding a pig will put them in “love mode,” indicated by the floating hearts above their head. If another pig nearby is also in love mode, the two pigs will breed and produce a baby pig!
Pigs cannot breed for another five minutes after they’ve made a baby. Baby pigs will follow their parents around, and will grow up into adult pigs after roughly 20 minutes pass. You can also feed baby pigs the same vegetables to speed up their growth time.
And that covers all the foods that pigs love to eat in Minecraft. If you have any other questions or tips, let us know in the comments below!
