Throughout your adventures in Slime Rancher 2, you can collect various materials that can be refined into useful upgrades for yourself or your ranch. Sun Sap is one such material, and it’s very elusive at that, so here’s all Sun Sap locations in Slime Rancher 2.
What is Sun Sap in Slime Rancher 2?
Sun Sap is an extremely rare resource found on certain trees in Powderfall Bluffs. Like the name implies, Sun Sap is hardened amber that has a brilliant shine to it. Take a look for yourself:
Sun Sap is used primarily as a Slime Science Material, which means you’re going to need some if you want to get more upgrades for your Vac. These things are harder to find than the tricky Moondew Nectars, so prepare for a lengthy hunt.
Where to find Sun Sap in Slime Rancher 2
Sun Sap is found exclusively in Powderfall Bluffs, a new connecting area to Ember Valley, home of the blazing Fire Slimes. If you don’t know how to get to Powderfall Bluffs, we’ll show you the way. Before we start, make sure you have a Boom Plort, Tabby Plort, and a Batty Plort. You’ll also need the Jetpack upgrade. Now, head to this location in Ember Valley:
Look towards the cliffside, and you should see a large waterfall. There’s a hidden entrance behind the waterfall, so start from the platform with the Crystal Gordo on it, then jump and hover all the way through the waterfall. You should have enough juice to make it across.
Once you’re in, you’ll hit a dead end that has three Plort statues. Remember those three Plorts we told you to bring? Shoot all three into the corresponding statues to open a passageway beneath you.
Fall into the hole, then follow the cave path through to reach an icy area. Watch out for the large gap, and make sure you hover over it. Take the warp at the end of the cave to enter Powderfall Bluffs.
All Sun Sap spawn locations in Slime Rancher 2
Sun Sap can spawn anywhere in the northern section of the Powderfall Bluffs. Sun Sap only appears on the trunks of red pine trees and palm trees. Specifically, the red pine trees in the snowy northwest section, and the palm trees in the northeast hot springs section.
Thanks to the Slime Rancher 2 Steam community, we’ve collected some data on known possible spawn locations for Sun Sap, and they are in these spots marked by the blue and yellow stars:
It’s important to keep in mind that this chart is not exact. In fact, the consensus seems to be that Sun Sap can spawn on ANY tree in this section of the map, and they’re NOT static spawns fixed to specific trees. The most efficient way to go about this is to hit up all the star icons on our map and check nearby tree trunks for any Sun Sap. Don’t forget that Sun Sap can spawn on the fallen trees as well.
To help you hunt down the elusive Sun Sap, here are some tips to keep in mind. Firstly, there seems to be no time of day restrictions as to when Sun Sap spawns, so you can start your search whenever you like.
Secondly, Sun Sap emits a unique sound when you’re nearby, so it might be helpful to mute the in-game music and turn up the sound effects. Listen to it here:
Lastly, Sun Sap also gives off yellow sparkles, which you can sometimes make out, even if you’re far away. Look around all the trees and keep an eye out for the sparkles.
We cannot exaggerate just how rare Sun Sap is—it took us half an hour of running around just to find one. Keep looking through the listed spots, and if you’re not having any luck, return home and sleep until it’s a new day, as that can shuffle around the spawns. Good luck!
We hope this helps you find Sun Sap in Slime Rancher 2. If you have any other tips for finding Sun Sap, let us know in the comments below, and don’t forget to check out the rest of our Slime Rancher 2 guides.
