The Best Characters in Tekken 7

Before we start, we’re going to preface this list with pretty much all of our other tier lists with this: Tier lists should not be taken as cold hard facts, especially in fighting games. There are just way too many factors to keep track of, and at the end of day, any character can beat anyone, if the player is skilled enough. Play the characters that you enjoy the most, not where they stand on the tier list.

With that said, there are some standout characters in Tekken 7 that are very popular among the competitive players, due to a variety of reasons. Here are the strongest characters in Tekken 7 right now.

Akuma

Though he has endured multiple nerfs since his debut in the Tekken universe, Akuma still stands as one of the best characters in the game. His main gimmick is that he still feels like he’s playing on a 2D plane in a 3D game, which gives him a variety of approach options and mix-ups that a standard Tekken character wouldn’t have.

The scariest thing about Akuma though is his ability to capitalize huge damage off even the smallest opportunities. With quick normals and a lot of safe options, if the Akuma player knows what they’re doing, they can deal tons of damage with one little hit confirm.

Feng

Feng is an elusive and hyper-aggressive character that can overwhelm opponents with a flurry of attacks. Though his combos don’t deal that much damage and his pokes don’t hit very hard, he is very hard to retaliate against if you don’t know how to react to him. On top of all this, many of Feng’s moves move him low, which causes a lot of attacks to whiff, and he capitalize on this very easily, especially in the corner or against a wall.

Jin

One of the poster boys of the Tekken series, Jin has always been a solid choice in every game, and Tekken 7 is no different. He’s a versatile character with tools that can respond to pretty much any situation. He also possess one of the best parries in the game, if not the best, but of course parries are only good if you’re able to land them consistently.

Julia

Julia continues the trend of “really strong DLC character”. Her neutral and okizeme game is great and she has some good juggle combos. She has a variety of ways to approach thanks to Party Crasher, which also lets her pull off some relatively easy wall carry combos.

Katarina

4-string memes aside, Katarina is a strong character with a straightforward but deadly move set. Her moves are relatively easy to use, including the infamous 4, 4, 4, 4 string, and her pokes are fast and deal good damage, though she’s lacking a few low options. Her Harrier stance gives her great mix-up options if your opponent starts to react to other moves.

Kunimitsu

Kunimitsu is another DLC character, she brings a very unique tool set to Tekken. She’s got the typical workings of a good Tekken character—great movement options, lots of fast pokes and easy normals, and even a good defensive backdash. On top of all this, she has access to some teleportation moves which boosts her movement capabilities through the roof, and a projectile that has some strange properties. Many players don’t really know how to deal with Kunimitsu’s shenanigans, hence her strength.

Marduk

One of the most notorious DLC characters, Marduk is a character that you can have a good lead on only to suddenly be missing half your health. Marduk is slow and clunky, but if he manages to get in a tackle and starts throwing you around, you better watch out. If he faces aggressive pressure, he can turn things around with his punch parry. His raw strength alone makes him a scary opponent.
