Most players of Hogwarts Legacy are fans of the original Harry Potter books or movies, and will be eagerly awaiting any little easter eggs they may spot as they play. We have discovered quite a few references that are bound to give players a little thrill when they notice them! Be warned: this article will contain bigger spoilers at the end! Check out what we have found so far for all callbacks to the movies and books in Hogwarts Legacy.
Harry Potter Easter Eggs in Hogwarts Legacy
The game starts off in a way that will certainly feel familiar to fans of the Harry Potter movies and books. There is a wizard visiting a street in the muggle world, and the old familiar sight of the Hogwarts Express. When starting school, fans will notice the curriculum can’t have changed much between now and when Harry Potter eventually starts school, as many of the lessons are exactly the same including the Sorting Hat, making feathers float, potting up screaming mandrake roots, and broom flying lessons!
Sneaking into the prefects bathroom, players will notice it looks pretty much the same as when we see it in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when Potter had to submerge the clue under the water to find out the next challenge! In one of the bathroom stalls there also seems to be a potion being brewed, which may spark a memory of a certain Hermione Granger and a Polyjuice Potion mishap. In another bathroom there is a sneaky reference you can find if you look closely at one of the faucets. A snake is carved into it- referencing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Ancestors of well-known characters are also all around you when playing Hogwarts Legacy. There is Phineas Nigellus Black (ancestor to Sirius Black, Harry Potter’s godfather), and Matilda Weasley (ancestor to the red-haired family Harry loved so much). There are bound to be other famous last names you will recognise too! Ghostly characters such as Peeves and Nearly Headless Nick also make an appearance.
One fan discovered a very niche reference to a line spoken by Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: “Why spiders? Why couldn’t it be butterflies?” Well, for you it will be butterflies as you have to follow them to find treasure.
***Spoilers Ahead!***
Continue onwards only if you have completed the game or do not mind any major plot points being mentioned! You have been warned!
Players will meet a very important character named Ominis Gaunt who will turn out to be the descendant of Salazar Slytherin, which means he is related to Tom Riddle (AKA Lord Voldemort) who shares the same ancestor.
The Deathly Hallows are also discovered in Hogwarts Legacy, and players get to see the Elder Wand, the Stone of Resurrection, and the Invisibility Cloak. There is even a chance to have ago on all three of these items, although you will not get to keep them.
There are probably so many more little references and callbacks to the books and the movies, created just for Harry Potter fans, but those are all the ones we have spotted ourselves. If you have any more, please let us know in the comments! Check out what else we have to offer in our Hogwarts Legacy section. Good luck.
