Among Us: Everything to know about the Red character

When Among Us first released back in the Summer of 2018, it enjoyed minimal success. When 2020 rolled around and the world was in the thick of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the game’s popularity grew almost overnight thanks to big Twitch streamers. Since then, Among Us has become one of the biggest games of 2020 and has spawned a lot of memes, including the now iconic phrase “sus”!

There’s one character that is often chosen to represent Among Us as a whole, and that’s the red colored crewmate. Red is often used in promotional art and in memes, so they’ve become the face of Among Us fan creations. We’ve got everything you need to know about the red character right here in our Among Us guide!

Who is the Red character?

The main playable characters in Among Us are the crewmates. These funny little guys are simply trying to maintain their spaceship while trying to survive. You see, a few of the crewmates are actually imposters, murderous aliens intent on wiping out the real crew.

The Red crewmate is – in the game’s universe – potentially just a regular crewmate just like the other colors, but they are featured many times in the game’s official artwork. This has caused some fans to consider the Red crewmate as the “main” character, but since the game’s community has taken the image of Red and slapped them on countless memes, Red is also considered to be the true imposter!

Innersloth, the developers of Among Us, have noticed this trend and are starting to play along with it now! A lot of promotional art now features the Red crewmate as the imposter, sneaking around waiting for its next kill. Just take a look at the in-game tutorial screen on how to play as the imposter!

Despite the memes and multiple implications as Red being the true imposter, they are still featured many times on official game artwork and promotional images. So, it is a pretty safe bet to consider Red being the main character of the game.

Still though, you’ve probably heard the phrase “red sus” uttered somewhere in the game before. This is a meme founded in the belief that the player who is the Red crewmate is always the imposter, though obviously this isn’t true all the time. Just be careful though, because if you’re playing as red you may find yourself on the wrong end of accusations based on nothing!

And that’s about all you need to know about the Red crewmate character. We hope you enjoy your time in space!
