The big Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update is now live worldwide, bringing tons of new content for players to enjoy.
Among the new features included in the final major update for the game are some brand new villagers that can be invited to live on your island via Amiibo Cards. Here’s how to do so.
How to Use Amiibo Cards to Invite New Villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0
Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 introduced compatibility with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Amiibo Cards Series 5 set. This new set includes cards for new villagers added to the game by the update: Cephalobot, Ione, Marlo, Petri, Quinn, Sasha, Shino, and Tiansheng.
To invite any of these characters to live on your island, you will first have to acquire their related card. Series 5 packs cost $6 each and include six random cards, so it may take a while to find the card for any particular villager.
Once you get the card you are looking for, you need to access the Nook Stop terminal in the Resident Services and pick the Invite Amiibo camper option. After you made your selection, you can scan any amiibo card by putting it over the right stick if you’re using a Joy-Con controller or over the NFC sensor in the center of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. If any other character is at your campsite already, the game will ask you if you want to replace them with the new character.
Once a new character has been invited, head to their tent and fulfill their request, which involves bringing them a specific item. You will have to repeat this process three times to get a character to live on your island, and, as you can invite a character to your campsite only once a day, you will need three days to get them to move. You can change your console’s date and time to speed up the process.
After completing three requests, the villager will finally be ready to move to your island. If you have reached the maximum number of villagers already, you will have to send one away to make space for the new arrival.
