The newest title in the Pokemon Franchise, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, has a lot of expectations riding on its shoulders. It’s been shown as a semi-open world Pokemon adventure set in the ancient Sinnoh region, then called Hisui, where you embark on the quest to work on the very first Pokedex ever created.
Clearly, a lot of the core mechanics and gameplay elements are being shifted to create a completely new experience for Pokemon fans. With all of these changes, what happens to Pokemon Gyms? Will there still be the iconic Gym battles throughout the Hisui region that we’ve known all these decades?
Are There Gym Battles in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?
As we know with the information revealed so far, there are no traditional Gym battles in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. This makes complete sense, as Hisui is set centuries before the modern-day Pokemon world, and Pokemon gyms weren’t formed until recently.
Just like when Pokemon Sun and Moon switched up the usual formula of Pokemon Gyms with Island Kahunas and Trials, it is believed that the Warden battles in Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be replacing the usual Pokemon Gym experience.
You will have to challenge these Wardens, and instead of Gym Badges, players receive the right to fight against Noble Pokemon. How these battles against the Wardens and Noble Pokemon will exactly unfold is still unclear, but the mysteries surrounding the game are slowly fading away as it sees its eventual release inching closer and closer.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set for a global release on January 26, 2022, on the Nintendo Switch.
