Best Keyboards for iPad Air & iPad Air 2 (2016)

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

I love the versatility of my iPad Air 2 and I love the fact that I can get a lot of work done on it wherever I am, without busting my back carrying a laptop. The iPad is way smaller and weights a lot less, but it’s also extremely powerful and it has become my best gadget to do some work and writing whenever I have some free time. The problem is that the built-in keyboard doesn’t help much as it is slow and for some reason I keep tapping the wrong buttons. That’s why I consider that a keyboard is essential to get work done. And if you want to make sure that you won’t get frustrated by other problems, then you want a great keyboard for your iPad Air or Air 2.

To make things easier for you, we did some research found three amazing keyboards for the iPad Air & iPad Air 2: from a budget entry in case funds are tight, to a pricier but completely flawless keyboard. No matter which of the keyboards below you choose, you can be sure that you will do great work on your device!

Trent Airbender

01 trent airbender

Our “budget” entry today, Trent Airbender does a lot of the things that the more expensive iPad Air / Air 2 keyboards do, and does it really nice! It has a durable hard clamshell case that protects your iPad nicely and it has a very important element: you can remove the keyboard itself (but keep the case) which comes in extremely handy because you won’t always need or want to use your iPad together with the keyboard. The Keyboard itself is easy to attach and feels good and natural, taking advantage of all the limited space it has: even with my big fingers, I can still write very fast on the keyboard. It has a multi-adjustable arm/stand for 360 degree vertical and horizontal orientations, which come in very handy.

The Trent Airbender does look a bit bulkier and only comes in black – so you can’t get the clean, minimalist, white design, but these are in the end, design-related drawbacks and you might not even consider them real problems. What matters is that the keyboard works really well and also acts as a great protective case for your iPad. For this price, it’s perfect so click here to check it out!

Logitech Ultrathin

Logitech seems to have simply entered the minds of Apple designers when they created this amazing keyboard for the iPad Air or Air 2. It’s extremely thin (just 6.4mm thick) and has all the minimalist design that we all love so much when it comes to Apple products. It has a nice magnetic clip-on that allows for multiple angle positions and works great. They also say that the keyboard lasts up to 180 hours on a single charge (and up to TWO YEARS for the Air 2 version), which is pretty amazing! This beautiful piece still remains relatively cheap and does a great job at offering both a great keyboard and a design that fits perfectly the iPad Air or Air 2.

The only problem that you might have with it is that it doesn’t act like a traditional case: when closed, it does protect the display of your device, but there is no back cover, leaving your iPad exposed to scratches. But this is also considered a pro by many, who love to see their iPads exactly as they were when they left the factory’s door. There are two different models for each type of iPad Air, and you can check them out by following the next links: here for the iPad Air 2 keyboard and here for the iPad Air one.

Belkin QODE Ultimate Pro

A beautiful and extremely high quality case/keyboard combination. Offering a great backlit keyboard (with three intensities of the light) and adjustable angle of the tablet itself, the Belkin QODE Ultimate Pro keyboard is one of the best iPad Air and iPad Air 2 keyboards on market right now. You can also easily detach the device from the keyboard and still have it protected by the case (made from aircraft-grade aluminum). Works in both Landscape and Portrait mode and the clip-on magnets work great, keeping your tablet secure and saving its battery. A really great product that you should definitely get if you have a slightly higher budget to spend. Check out the iPad Air version here and the iPad Air 2 version here.

I am sure that you will find your favorite keyboard by choosing any of our recommendations above – these are all really high quality products that you will love!
