Our guide will discuss which Pokémon are the best for learning False Swipe.

The Best Pokémon to Use False Swipe

False Swipe is a Normal-type physical move that features 40 base power and 100% accuracy. False Swipe hurts targets as usual, but with one caveat: It cannot reduce a target’s HP past 1.

As you can probably guess, this is extremely useful for weakening a wild Pokémon’s HP to make it easier to catch them. Gone are the days when you’re trying to lower their HP only for your Pokémon to accidentally finish them off!

Only a few Pokémon learn False Swipe by levelling up, so it’s usually easier to find TM057 and teach it to a Pokémon using that.

In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, there are a number of Pokémon that can learn False Swipe naturally and from TM057, but our favorite was Gallade.

Our reasoning is that when leveling up a Kirlia, it naturally learns both False Swipe and Hypnosis, which puts Pokémon to sleep. Once it evolves into Gallade, you can teach it Thunder Wave by using TM082 on it.

This gives Gallade two status ailments that leave wild Pokémon completely helpless, which greatly increases your chance of catching them!

Another factor is that False Swipe is a physical move, so that means it scales off of a Pokémon’s Atk stat and not their Sp. Atk. Gallade has very high Atk but low Sp. Atk, which makes it even better.

That’s just one example, however. The bottom line is that the best Pokémon to use False Swipe with are ones that also learn status ailment-inflicting moves, as they make it easier to catch wild Pokémon. You’ve got lots of options, so why not experiment?

If you’re playing Pokémon Violet, Iron Valiant and Ceruledge are two great candidates for False Swipe. They both have high Atk and can learn False Swipe through the TM, and they can also learn status ailment moves through TMs as well.

That concludes our guide on the best Pokémon to teach False Swipe to. Do you have a favorite Pokémon to use for catching wild Pokémon? Let us know who they are in the comments below!
