Best Sage to Upgrade in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Check out our choice of the best Sage to upgrade first in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom for the best results.

I found the sage mechanic one of the best aspects of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The map of Hyrule is vast—the biggest yet, to be precise—and exploring it completely on your own would feel, well, a bit lonely. Therefore, when a game introduces companions (especially when those companions come with some useful skills), I’m already sold.

You probably know by now that you can unlock a total of five Sages in Tears of the Kingdom: Yunobo, Sidon, Mineru, Riju, and Tulin. They all come with unique skills that will make exploration and combat easier and that you can upgrade if you collect enough Sage’s Will, a rather rare resource that can be quite tricky to obtain. If you’re not sure which ally to invest this resource in, we bring you our choice for the best Sage to upgrade in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Without pussyfooting around, I’ll just go ahead and say that the best Sage to upgrade in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Tulin. Young Tulin of Rito Village has already been quite indispensable in my adventures in Hyrule, even at his base level, because of his wind abilities that make flying more efficient.

While the upgrade that you can unlock after collecting four Sage’s Wills and taking them to the Goddess Statue (Emergency Shelter at Lookout Landing) won’t improve your flying abilities any further, it will enhance Tulin’s damage output in combat with some headshots. I found Tulin quite useful in numerous fights, and that was the experience of many other players I talked to as well. For that reason, we suggest upgrading Tulin first.

However, as with many things in gaming, the best Sage to upgrade first might be different for you depending on your playstyle. Considering that these upgrades mean boosts in damage of your allies’ avatars, you might want to upgrade the Sage you’ve been relying on the most when fighting all kinds of enemies in this expansive world.
