How to Deal with Raider Attacks in Fallout Shelter

Raider attacks are inevitable in Fallout Shelter, and the only way to survive them is to be prepared. Thankfully Raiders are as predictable as they are aggressive, so a well-planned out shelter is one that will survive even a strong attack from these brutes. To be ready for an attack make sure you have the following:

  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Strong Dwellers
  • Stimpaks
  • Attack-boosting Pets (optional but cute and useful!)

Equip Dwellers with best available gear

When you are first building a shelter you won’t have much in the way of weaponry or armor, so make sure you equip any you have to every available Dweller. Even if it increases their Strength by a few points, it is worth using it. This also applies to weapons: even a Pool Cue is worth equipping if you have nothing else. If you have a Pet which increases Attack, like the Alien Drone, equip it on any upper deck Dweller.

More weapons and armor can be found in Lunchboxes, out in the Wasteland by exploring Dwellers, and crafted from Junk in the Weapon Workshop. Occasionally a new Dweller will arrive with some useful gear, so welcome them in and set them to work!

Put vulnerable Dwellers on lower floors

When Raiders attack they always attack the first floor and the first room they get to. This is actually great news as you can put your strongest and most well-equipped Dwellers in this room to attempt to fight them off before they reach more vulnerable people elsewhere.

Make sure you put any pregnant Dwellers in the lower rooms as they are absolutely useless in any dangerous situation. At any sign of danger the pregnant Dwellers will run screaming into the Living Quarters until it is safe, which is fair enough but does ultimately mean they would be no use working in the upper areas when Raiders attack.

Heal badly injured Dwellers quickly

If any of the Dwellers fighting off the Raiders sustain a lot of damage, a Stimpak icon will appear above their heads. Tap it to use a Stimpak immediately and keep them alive. If any do die it is possible to revive them for Caps. If you do not revive them then make sure you take the body away or else it will make the other Dwellers unhappy. No one wants to see their friend’s corpse on the floor while they work. Raider corpses can be removed and give you Caps, weapons, or outfits which you can use or sell.

Now you are prepared, with your strongest and best equipped Dwellers at the frontline, you should survive any Raider attack easily! If you need more tips on surviving in the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout Shelter then visit our vault layout guide.
