Among the many Jobs available in Bravely Default II, the Ranger Job is definitely among the most interesting. While the abilities it learns are extremely useful, this Job shines more as a sub-Job, since its many abilities seem to work even better when paired to those of other Jobs.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Ranger Job in Bravely Default II.
Overview
The Ranger Job is all about dealing damage. While its Strength is not all that high, the high Agility stat means that this Job will get turns more often, letting it dish out more damage over time. The Bow is also a very strong weapon overall, so the Ranger can hold its own in pretty much every battles.
What makes the Ranger such a great class, however, are its Slayer abilities that let you inflict more damage depending on the enemy type, effectively bypassing the weakness system. Many of the Ranger’s abilities are also centered on the Paralysis status effect, which most enemies in the game are weak against.
While it’s true that many of the Ranger’s abilities work better as a sub Job, the Job can still be a force to be reckoned with thanks to the Who Dares Wins ability and the Apex Predator speciality. The first increases critical hit rate when BP are at one or higher, while the second not only increases the Slayer abilities’ power but also increases BP by one for every enemy killed and critical hit. A devastating combination, especially in boss battles.
Special Abilities
Alongside the Apex Predator speciality, learned at Job Level 12, the Ranger also learns Barrage, which increases damage the more successive actions are performed. Maximum Draw, the Job’s Special Ability, increases evasion by 50% while hitting a single enemy with a powerful physical attack. To use this Special Ability, you need to use Hunting 13 times.
