To answer that question, we prepared this handy guide to talk about the existence of spells that let you torture or kill people in Hogwarts Legacy, as well as some other details you must have missed out on.Â
Can You Torture People in Hogwarts Legacy?
Yes! You can torture people in Hogwarts Legacy using the three Unforgivable Curses: Avada Kedavra, Crucio, and Imperio.
Long-time fans of the series would already know about each of these curses. And if you are a newcomer, here is a brief description of what they do:
- Avada Kedavra – It is one of the deadliest spells in the wizarding world, which you can use to kill people.
- Crucio – Also known as Cruciatus Curse, Crucio lets you torture people and inflict excruciating pain.
- Imperio – Also known as Imperius, Imperio enables you to control and command people.
By befriending an NPC named Sebastian Sallow, you can learn these Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy. The exact details of obtaining each of the three curses are still unknown.

However, if you own Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition, you get access to the Dark Arts Arena, where you can use the Unforgivable Curses, irrespective of whether you have them unlocked.Â
That aside, even though the game doesn’t feature a morality system, there are consequences for using the Unforgivable Curses in Hogwarts Legacy.
In an interview will GamesRadar+, Narrative Director Moira Squier said, “Giving the player the option to use Unforgivable Curses was a decision not made lightly.” As she explained, the team “knew that many players have always wanted to play as Dark witches and wizards, and this option allows them to do so.”
Moira even talked about how using the Unforgivable Curse impacts your surroundings. She mentions, “Characters will react visually and audibly to seeing the player cast an Unforgivable, but we don’t have a morality system that punishes them for doing so.”
So, can you torture people in Hogwarts Legacy? Yes, and while there will be some in-game responses to your actions, don’t expect the wizarding world to hold you responsible for your crimes against wizarding kind.
