Capcom has a nice treat for iPhone and iPad gamers this week as they have launched two of their classic games on the App Store: Ghosts’n Goblins and 1942. Although I am not completely sure how younger gamers who haven’t played the original titles will feel about them, older ones like myself will surely be ecstatic.
Ghosts’n Goblins Mobile is the first title released by Capcom and is available on the App Store for 99 cents. An insanely difficult platformer – like they used to make them back in the days – Ghosts’n Goblins Mobile puts you in the shoes of Sir Arthur and sends you on a quest to save princess Prim-Prim. On your way you will obviously fight Ghosts and Goblins, as well as other scary undead creatures in an increasingly difficult adventure.
The game has bee updated a bit to meet current standards, meaning that it has been dumbed down a bit with a casual mode (although the original game mode is still available), but also has global leaderboards to see how you compare to other players. A great game especially for those who tried to or managed to beat it back in the days.
1942 Mobile is my favorite of the two as I have fonder memories related to this incredible vertical shooter. The game is available on the App Store for $1.99.
Set in the Pacific theater during World War II, this vertically scrolling shoot ’em up tasks players with battling through the entire enemy fleet. Shoot down enemy planes, avoid enemy fire and perform rolls and loops to avoid certain death in this epic nail-biter from the past.
Although it has been tweaked a bit for mobile platforms, it still delivers the same amounts of fun and joy as the original and I am sure that you will absolutely love it, especially if you played 1942 back in the days.
