Diablo II Resurrected: What Are Runewords?

Runes are extremely important items in Diablo II Resurrected, as they allow you to add all sorts of effects to weapons and armor to create many different builds. Runes can also be used to create Runewords, which are among the best items that can be obtained in the game.

Here’s everything you need to know about Runewords and how to create them.

What Are Runewords in Diablo II Resurrected?

Runewords are very special items that require quite a bit of effort to obtain. These special weapons and armor can be created only by finding specific items and inserting specific runes in a specific order inside their sockets. The base item must be plain, as magic, rare, yellow, unique, and set items will not produce a Runeword.

Just finding the required items is not enough to create the perfect Runeword, as there are a lot of variables involved in creating one. Generally, you want to use the best possible base item to create a Runeword, so as to increase your chances of getting a perfect roll. This obviously requires some knowledge of the game mechanics and loot system, so do not worry about creating the perfect Runeword right from the get-go: if you are playing the game at normal difficulty, you will not even need Runewords to complete the campaign, as these items are way more important when trying to complete the game at Hell and Nightmare difficulties.
