DomiNations has just been launched on iOS and Android by legendary game designer Brian Reynolds (Civilization II, Rise of Nations) and as expected, we’re talking about a massive, insanely complex and really addictive game.

There’s a lot to learn and master in this title, so we’ll start with the beginning stages of the game in this article where we’ll share with you some Dominations cheats and tips for a complete strategy guide to set the founding stones of your amazing civilization.

But even if you are an advanced player, you should still check out our guide since you might find something you didn’t know already.

1. How to get more gold
There are a lot of mechanics in the game that will help you get more gold and you should take advantage of them all.

Start slow by hunting bunnies and foxes and go from there up to getting the gold from the mine to connecting all your buildings (or as many as possible) by roads to the Town Center.

This is actually a really solid way of getting a lot of free coins. Finally, you should trade at the market when you see it full, giving away items that you collect by performing various tasks in your civilization screen.

2. Keep those workers busy!
Always keep your workers busy and have them build, upgrade or collect something. Even if you have just one worker left, have him do something while you are there, playing!

Otherwise, it will be a slower progress on your side – and this is not a game known for how fast you progress through the ages, so you should take all help that you can.

3. Keep your nation clean
Clear the forests every time you have the chance because that not only gives you more space for expanding your civilization and building the base you want to build, but you also get all sorts of goodies when you first clear out a forest.

4. Focus on building up your base early on
This means build all possible structures and upgrade your buildings as often as possible. The single player campaign gets difficult really quick and usually raiding other players in the Bronze Age is a risky situation, especially if you’re just starting the game up.

So focus on building up the base, upgrading everything and only afterwards try to conquer and plunder. And don’t forget to take advantage of the free time boost that you get once there are 5 or less minutes of building time!

5. Maximize revenue through micromanagement
Learn to manage your workers to maximize revenue – this is extremely useful especially early on when you have few workers and a lot of things to do.

Upgrades and buildings take a lot of time and if you’re just starting to play, it makes no sense to get your workers stuck on such tasks.

Instead hunt, harvest and collect as much as you can, then start the upgrades or buildings when you’re about to leave the game.

6. Defense is extremely important
Defend your base the best you can – it won’t be possible to have everything protected by walls and defensive buildings, but you can improve your chances a lot if you have a smart base design.

Try placing the defensive buildings around your Town Center and surround them with walls so that they last longer.

Also keep the resource buildings in sight and use them as bait – an opponent can’t use the target too many times in battle and any second you win is a step to your victory.

7. Learn how to attack, too
Learn the attacking game mechanics and use them to your own advantage. I would personally suggest to focus on getting to the Medieval Age as fast as possible to have more defensive buildings available and build them first and only afterwards upgrade them.

Have in mind that towers that are under upgrade will not work if you get attacked so try to time these upgrades when you have a peace treaty (also have in mind when attacking other players – all the towers that are being upgraded will not harm you.)

8. Go for the win, but not total domination
Have a focus in battle, because you will usually find it difficult to get a complete win. I would personally suggest to go for loot and care less about winning the battle: the more medals you get, the more difficult the opponents you’ll get (and more powerful civilizations will attack you).

This means that it’s best to keep the medal counts low for as long as possible until you build up a decent civilization. And don’t forget to always attack with a blessing for your troops!
