In the Mountain is one of the big quests and a mandatory one, granted players want to farm Heart of Depth or the Blizzard Strayer artifact sets.

After completing In the Mountain world quest, players unlock the Peak of Vindagnyr domain that offers the Heart of Depth and the Blizzard Strayer artifact sets.

In the Mountain is not only a big quest but a tedious one too. Players are in constant danger of accumulating Sheer Cold. They have to traverse some of the worst terrains in the entirety of Genshin Impact. The location of shards is not marked on the map. And, even if players somehow manage to find and thaw all the shards out, they have to do everything again at the Skyfrost Nail.

In this Genshin Impact guide, we will walk you through the part of In the Mountains quest where players have to “Thaw All the Shards Out.”

How to Thaw All the Shards Out

During the “Thaw, All the Shards Out” part of In the Mountain quest, players have to find and thaw out three shards. The first one is found at the Frostbearing Tree. The second one is located in Starglow Cavern and the last one is found in Entombed City – Outskirts.

To make your life easier, we have marked the location of all three shards in the above Genshin Impact map screenshot.

Frostbearing Tree Shard

The Frostbearing Tree shard is the first that you encounter while making your way into the Dragonspine region.

Thawing the shards out is a simple process.

Find Scarlet Quartz in the vicinity –> Use them to gain temporary relief from Sheer Cold –> In used state, attack the shard.

Repeat the above process and you will thaw the shard out.

Starglow Cavern Shard

The Starglow Cavern shard is hidden behind a barrier that players can remove by completing a challenge that consists of a short skirmish where four waves of enemies must be cleared in three minutes.

Here are the enemies you will encounter in the challenge:

  • 2x Cryo Hilichurl Shooters, 1x Cryo Hilichurl Grenadier
  • 3x Cryo Hilichurl Shooters, 1x Cryo Samachurl
  • 2x Cryo Hilichurl Shooters, 2x Cryo Samachurl
  • 3x Cryo Abyss Mage

Once the barrier is gone, repeat the above process of finding Scarlet Quartz, using it, and then hitting the shard with a normal attack.

Entombed City – Outskirts Shard

The Entombed City shard is locked behind a cryo pillar puzzle. Activate the nearby mechanism and observe the Seelie as it goes towards five cryo pillars. Active the pillars in the same order as the Seelie went through them.

After that, you have to defeat 2 Ruin Guards and one Ruin Grader. Once that is done, there will be a hole in the ground. Guide the floating Seelie to its pillar. Glide down and find and guide the second Seelie to its pillar.

Similar to before, find Scarlet Quartz, use it, and then hit the shard with a normal attack.

Assuming you have followed the guide so far, you must have thawed all the shards out.
